Friulane Batik – The Friulane of the East

Pli-Pla presents Batik – The Friulane of the East, an exclusive collection of handcrafted Friulane shoes that combines the traditions of 19th-century Friulian farmers with the allure of oriental fabrics.
Batik is a wax dyeing technique dating back to the ancient island of Java, Indonesia. Famous for its floral and geometric patterns, it is considered a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage and a symbol of elegance and ritual throughout the East.
From this inspiration was born the idea of merging Friulian and Asian cultures, creating Friulane shoes handmade in Italy with original Batik fabrics sourced from distant Eastern markets. The result is a timeless, limited-edition shoe: comfortable, refined, and unique in every detail.

Inspiration: Jakarta, where the tropical city lights up with contrasts

During a trip to Indonesia, we were overwhelmed by the energy of Jakarta, a vast and ever-changing metropolis where tradition and modernity coexist in dynamic balance. Here, the city never stops: the urban rhythm intertwines with the tropical climate, creating a landscape of light, color, and contrast.

As the sun sets, Jakarta changes. The deep blue of the night and the sea surrounding the city are illuminated by intense reflections: the city lights paint the skyline an electric purple, while the incessant traffic draws red streaks of light across the streets. The warm and enveloping equatorial sunsets add vibrant hues that reflect on the city and the ocean.

This vibrant palette is part of Jakarta's visual identity, as is its textile culture. Betawi Batik, an expression of local tradition, often uses red and blue in vibrant, graphic combinations, creating decorative patterns full of energy and character.

It is precisely from this intertwining of influences—midnight blue, the azure of the sea, the red of sunsets and traffic, and the purple accents of the city skyline—that the inspiration for this model comes.

The Friulane Batik Jakarta reinterprets these contrasts in a contemporary way: handcrafted women's Friulane shoes made in Italy, lightweight, comfortable, and designed to accompany everyday life with a bold style. The fabric, with its intense red interspersed with light blue stripes and purple inserts, perfectly evokes the city's visual energy.

A shoe with a modern and distinctive character, perfect for those who love a dynamic look, capable of combining elegance and urban spirit. Ideal for adding personality to even the most basic outfits.

A tribute to Jakarta, a vibrant and ever-evolving city, where every color expresses movement, light, and identity—just like our Friulane shoes.

Frequently asked questions

We have always believed in the value of honest advice, even online.
In this section, you will find the most useful and transparent answers regarding shipping, sizes, returns, and the care of our artisanal Friulian slippers.

Where are Pli-Pla friulane shoes produced?

Our Pli-Pla Friulian slippers are handmade in Lombardy by an artisan specializing in traditional footwear craftsmanship.
These are 100% made in Italy shoes, crafted with attention to the smallest detail and sewn according to skilled Italian artisanal tradition to ensure comfort, quality, and long-lasting durability.

Where do the fabrics for Batik Pli-Pla friulane slippers come from?

The fabrics for Batik Pli-Pla friulane slippers come from local producers in the Far East, selected during our travels through Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand.

Each fabric is carefully chosen directly on-site to promote traditional Eastern craftsmanship and support the local communities that pass down these unique dyeing techniques.

The textures and colors of original Batik inspire every Pli-Pla collection, creating an authentic encounter between Eastern culture and Italian style.

Are Pli-Pla friulane shoes suitable for vegans?

Pli-Pla velvet furlane slippers are suitable for those who follow a vegan lifestyle.
Our velvet is made with natural cotton fibers, making it a vegan, cruelty-free material, free from animal components. Furthermore, it is non-synthetic: a more sustainable and skin-friendly choice.

The silk furlane slippers, on the other hand, are not vegan, as silk is derived from the silkworm.

In any case, all our footwear is handcrafted in Italy, with great attention to the quality of materials and respect for the environment.

Which size should I choose for Pli-Pla friulane slippers?

Pli-Pla Venetian slippers have a comfortable, true-to-size fit.
If you are between two sizes, we recommend choosing the smaller size, as the slipper should fit snugly to provide stability and comfort while walking.

A fit that is too loose could cause the shoe to slip off during use.
Our slippers, in fact, are handcrafted in Italy using natural materials that will slightly adapt to your foot after the first few wears.

How do I clean Pli-Pla Friulane slippers?

Pli-Pla friulane slippers are handcrafted in Italy with velvet or silk uppers and a hand-stitched rubber sole, which is why it is important to clean them delicately.

We recommend that you do not machine wash them: instead, use a soft sponge or a cloth dampened with cold water (and, if necessary, a drop of mild soap). Gently dab the surface without rubbing and let them air dry, away from heat sources.

For the silk versions, use only a damp cloth, without soap.

The rubber sole can be cleaned with a slightly damp cloth.

By following these instructions, your friulane slippers will maintain their shape and beauty over time.
