However, it is hydrophobic: it handles a few drops of water, splashes, and light humidity well without getting damaged.

Keep in mind that:

the Birko-Flor upper is water-resistant;
the Birkenstock sole and footbed are not designed for immersion or prolonged use in very wet environments.

In short: water-resistant yes, waterproof no. Perfect for daily use, but not for heavy rain or prolonged contact with water.
