Batik is a wax-resist dyeing technique originating from the ancient island of Java, Indonesia. Renowned for its floral and geometric motifs, it is recognised as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage and is considered a symbol of elegance and ritual meaning throughout the East.
From this inspiration comes the idea of blending Friulian and Asian cultures, creating handmade Italian friulane crafted with authentic Batik fabrics sourced from distant oriental markets.
The result is a timeless shoe — comfortable, refined, and unique in every detail.
Inspiration: Sabah, where Borneo's nature meets impossibly blue seas
During a trip to Malaysian Borneo, we were captivated by the region of Sabah, a mysterious land rich in natural wonders. Here, every place tells a story: from the island of Labuan, beloved by nostalgic readers of Salgari, to the trails leading to the majestic Mount Kinabalu, rising 4,095 meters above the jungle.
Sabah's rainforests are home to some of the planet's most iconic large mammals, such as the Bornean orangutan, while offshore, nature becomes pure magic. The Semporna Islands, immersed in the Celebes Sea, are part of the Coral Triangle: one of the marine areas with the highest biodiversity in the world. Sipadan, in particular, is a paradise for divers and is home to 76% of the Earth's coral species.
Swirling barracudas, reef sharks, giant Napoleon wrasse, sea turtles, and vibrant coral gardens create a unique underwater landscape, capable of surprising even the most discerning eyes.

Our velvet is made with natural cotton fibers, making it a vegan, cruelty-free material, free from animal components. Furthermore, it is non-synthetic: a more sustainable and skin-friendly choice.
The silk furlane slippers, on the other hand, are not vegan, as silk is derived from the silkworm.
In any case, all our footwear is handcrafted in Italy, with great attention to the quality of materials and respect for the environment.

How do I clean Pli-Pla Friulane slippers?
Pli-Pla friulane slippers are handcrafted in Italy with velvet or silk uppers and a hand-stitched rubber sole, which is why it is important to clean them delicately.
We recommend that you do not machine wash them: instead, use a soft sponge or a cloth dampened with cold water (and, if necessary, a drop of mild soap). Gently dab the surface without rubbing and let them air dry, away from heat sources.
For the silk versions, use only a damp cloth, without soap.
The rubber sole can be cleaned with a slightly damp cloth.

Can I return or exchange Pli-Pla friulane shoes?
You have 14 days from the receipt of your order to request a return or exchange for your Pli-Pla Friulane slippers.
The shoes must be intact, unused, and returned in their original packaging, along with the purchase receipt.
